Revolve

Works with Bricscad (Windows) Pro

Revolves 2D closed entities to turn them into 3D solids.

Accessing the Command

command bar:  revolve

alias:  rev

menu bar:  Draw | 3D Entities | Revolve

toolbar:  Solids |

: revolve

Prompts you in the command bar:

Select entities: (Choose one or more closed 2D entities.)

Entities in set: 1

Select entities: (Choose more closed 2D entities, or press Enter to continue.)

Specify start point for axis of revolution or define axis by Object/Xaxis/Yaxis: (Enter an option.)

Specify angle of revolution <360>: (Enter the number of degrees, pick two points, or press Enter for the default.)

This command revolves only closed entities: circles, ellipses, closed polyline, closed splines, and regions.

The axis can be defined by two points; a line or a polyline segment; or the x or y axis.

The axis must be outside of the entity being revolved.

Description

Select entities

Specifies the entities to be revolved.

Choose one or more closed 2D entities.

The result is a 3D solid.

Specify start point for axis of revolution or define axis by  Object/Xaxis/Yaxis

Specifies the axis of rotation.

Pick a point or enter x,y,z coordinates; prompts you:

Specify endpoint of axis - pick another point, or enter x,y,z coordinates.

The two points specify the endpoints of a line that forms the axis about which the 2D entity is revolved.

Object

Specifies the axis of rotation by an object.

Pick a line or a polyline segment.

Xaxis

Uses the x axis as the axis of rotation.

Yaxis

Uses the y axis as the axis of rotation.

Specify angle of revolution

Specifies the angle through which the entity should be revolved.

Enter any angle larger than 0 degrees, or one of the following standard angles:

  • 90 - revolves the entity 1/4 of the way around the axis of rotation.

  • 180 - revolves the entity 1/2 of the way around.

  • 270 - revolves the entity 3/4 of the way around.

  • 360 - revolves the entity all the way around.

Press Enter to accept the default of 360 degrees.
